The Gator Guayabera Guateque (GGG) was started in 2004 and is the UF-AHA’s signature event. The annual gathering of hundreds of Gator alumni and friends is designed to celebrate UF’s rich Hispanic/Latino culture and raise funds for student scholarships, including the UF-AHA endowment, AHA/MFOS endowment, and Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures.
The GGG also showcases what is best about the University of Florida by presenting the Gran Caimán Award each year to a Hispanic/Latino Gator who has represented UF in a positive and successful manner; including contributions to the community and their professional or academic field. Starting in 2020, the GGG also honors the Poder Award recipient. The Poder Award honors a young emerging leader, age 40 and under, who demonstrates the qualities and contributions of a developing Gran Caimán.
