Aminda (Mindy) Marques Gonzales, born in New York to Cuban immigrant parents, earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism in 1986 from the University of Florida. After graduation, she rose through the ranks at The Miami Herald where she started as an intern and later became the paper’s first Hispanic editor and only the second woman in the position.

Today, she serves as the Editor and Publisher of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald. Under her leadership, The Miami Herald was twice named a Pulitzer Prize finalist; once for its coverage of the Haiti earthquake in 2010 and in 2012 for public service for a series detailing failures of assisted-living facility regulations. Gonzalez was honored by the UF College of Journalism and Communications as an Alumnae of Distinction and in 2016, she received the Presidential Award of Impact from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. Gonzalez serves on the boards of the Pulitzer Prize, the Associated Press Media Editors and the Poynter Institute’s advisory council.
