Class of 2022
Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship 2020

“As the first in my family to graduate from high school, pursue higher education, and pursue a career in the health field, I have faced unique challenges in achieving my dreams, but I have never let these challenges get the best of me. As I started my third year at the University of Florida not too long ago, I am an awe of the opportunities and experiences I have been blessed to live through. These accomplishments were made possible because of the example my mother set for me. Unable to receive an education because of her immigrant status, she has never let these limitations stop her from dedicating her life to serving others. These experiences taught me that a life of purpose is a life of aiding others. This is the main reason as to why I wish to continue my education to become a Public Health Nurse Practitioner with hopes of one day running my own non-profit organization. I want to tackle the disparity of representation within Hispanic-Latinx communities in the medical field by providing programs that focus on preventative medical attention and education…Although it is often difficult to conceal the ways this world wishes to diminish people like me, I am thankful for AHA for giving me an opportunity to show the world otherwise. I can confidently say that through your generous contributions, Hispanic and Latinx youth like me are given the opportunity to not only be represented in fields, but they can be given the chance to empower themselves and empower others through their own growth.”
