“I wanted to take a moment to thank the donors for funding the Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship for the 2022-2023 academic year. I will not take this opportunity lightly. This scholarship will allow me to focus more heavily on schoolwork and ensure that I continue to grow my journalism portfolio for future employers. I am the first member of my Hispanic family to be awarded this scholarship and attend a major American university. This recognition is humbling and truly special.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I began my major in journalism. Overcoming the obstacles and challenges of remote learning due to the pandemic made the process increasingly difficult. Nonetheless, I persevered and was able to turn this negative global issue into a personal triumph. I successfully completed my Associate’s Degree in Mass Communications/Journalism with the highest honors. This scholarship will be able to assist me with the cost of tuition and books at the University of Florida. My goals moving forward are to develop lasting relationships in journalism and continue to produce newsworthy stories.
