Massiel Cobblah Gutierrez is a rising fourth-year student at the University of Florida double majoring in Criminology and Women Studies while also minoring in Sociology. Massiel was born in Cuba and moved to the United States at the age of nine where she learned a completely new language and inserted herself in the American school system. Fast forward twelve years, Massiel is on the verge of culminating her undergraduate studies and finds herself gearing up to apply to law school to finally accomplish her dream of becoming an attorney. Massiel is passionate about serving her community and has had extensive involvement with different local Gainesville organizations. She currently is an intern for the Innocence Project of Florida where she serves an underrepresented community of individuals who have been wrongfully convicted. Moreover, Massiel has dedicated over 200 hours to a Psychology and Law Research lab where she is committed to understanding what affects legal decision-making as well as developing science-based policies that help increase the impartiality of the legal system. Massiel is also an ambassador for the Center for Undergraduate Research as well as the Office of Admissions at the University of Florida. As she heads into her final year at the University of Florida, she hopes to show others who are in the position she was once in que sí se puede.
