Marc Gandarillas (Vilafranca del Penedès, Barcelona – 1987) holds a B.A. in Classics (2009), a B.A. in Linguistics (2014), and a M.A. in Ancient Cultures and Languages (2011)—all from the Universitat de Barcelona. This Summer 2022 semester, he is graduating as a Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Hispanic Linguistics from the University of Florida. In his current research, he specializes in variationist sociolinguistics as applied to Catalan heritage communities in Latin America, for which he has received multiple awards, such as the University of Florida’s Graduate School Fellowship (2018-2022) and the prestigious Fundació La Caixa scholarship (2020-2022). His interests include bilingualism, anthropological linguistics, revitalization, and language policy. Marc has recently accepted a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Spanish at the University of North Dakota.
