Liana Guerra was born and raised in Miami, Florida to Cuban-American parents. She currently lives in Washington D.C. serving as the Chief of Staff to Congressman Darren Soto (FL-09). Liana graduated from UF in 2015 with a degree in Economics and Political Science and in 2020 with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). Liana is passionate about finding solutions for immigration reform, education and empowering women in the workplace. In 2016, the Huffington Post named her one of “18 Amazing Women Fighting for Latinas Everyday”. In 2020, she was awarded the Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute’s “Vermillion Award” for her commitment to uplifting the Hispanic community.
During her time on campus, Liana served as President of the Hispanic Student Association (HSA), a Senior Ambassador at La Casita, and was the only student on the Council of Advisors to UF’s Bob Graham Center for Public Service. Additionally, Liana co-founded “Gators for Tuition Equity” which successfully lobbied to make Florida the 21st state to allow undocumented students to pay in-state tuition rates.
Her love and commitment to UF extends beyond the classroom. She serves as a member of the UF Bob Graham Center’s Council of Advisors. In 2020, she was awarded the “Young Alumni Horizon Award” from UF’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
