“I am eternally grateful to UF AHA for opening another door of opportunities for me through selecting me as a recipient of the Colonel Glenn A. Farris Scholarship. Education has always been a very important force in my life and something that I’ve always strived to pursue. It has kept me grounded and focused during difficult times. As a third-year journalism student, I’ve had the chance to learn and grow so much as a professional and person from my professors and peers. I’ve dipped my toes in magazine and newspaper writing, archival research, social media work, and organization leadership roles. Despite the tumultuous year that we’ve just experienced, I am thankful to have AHA’s support in continuing my journey. This scholarship will help me continue to be as involved while still in pursuit of my future goals. In the upcoming school year, I plan on using my final year at UF to soak up the opportunities as a communicator and student. In the future, I hope to be able to directly give back to my community in Miami and help other members of marginalized communities feel seen and respected.“
